Safe Henna Guarantee

At Marrakech Henna Art Cafe, we guarantee the use of natural henna with all our henna designs.  Chemicals are never used; the ingredients in our henna paste, which is mixed fresh every morning, are the dried, powdered leaves of the henna plant, lemon juice and sugar.  In addition, our henna supervisor has been certified with the International Certification for Natural Henna Arts (ICNHA); we are the only henna provider certified by the ICNHA in all of Morocco. So come on in to see the wonderful work done by our henna artists, and partake of this lovely tradition!

Henna Instructions and What to Expect-Please Read This Page!

Coloration, intensity and duration of your henna tattoo: The henna paste that is applied to your skin is a very dark brown color; the tattoo that remains after the paste is removed is initially an orange hue that will darken to reddish brown for light colored skin and maroon for darker skin.  This takes a day or two. On most people a tattoo will last for 7-10 days, although it will be less for some people and longer for others. There are many factors that affect a tattoo’s intensity and longevity, including respecting our instructions, a person’s individual skin chemistry, and your activities after receiving your tattoo. The location of your henna tattoo is also a factor. Henna stains the best where the skin is thickest, as on the palms of your hands and soles of your feet. The back sides of your hands and tops of your feet are the next best location while areas where the skin is the thinnest, like the back and shoulders, generally only produce a light stain. A tattoo that starts at the fingertips and goes up the arm will gradually lighten as it travels up the arm. Please be aware that designs on the feet must take into account your type of footwear; we can not apply henna on areas where the footwear rubs against the skin.

Please wash the area where you want your henna tattoo; creams, lotions, oils and sunscreen will interfere with the henna process.

After the artist has applied the henna, we want you to sit quietly for a short time while we allow the henna to dry. When it has dried, we will apply a lemon juice/sugar solution which effectively “glues” the henna to your skin. At this time, you are free to leave. Please leave the henna paste on your skin for 6 to 8 hours. You may then scratch the paste off your skin using something stiff like a credit card, or just your fingernails.

Please do not plan on going to a hammam or spa on the same day you get your henna. Please avoid getting the henna tattoo wet for the rest of the day as water, especially chlorinated water from a swimming pool, will lesson the life of your henna tattoo. Try to avoid getting your henna wet in a swimming pool on subsequent days as well.

On very hot days, if you are outside and you sweat, it may adversely affect your henna. On these extremely hot summer days, please consider getting your henna when you can relax inside or outside in a shady area, with no physical exertion.

If you are wearing any jewelry that may interfere with your henna design, please remove it and keep it in a safe place before coming to the cafe. We regularly find personal items like jewelry and while they are always returned if found by our team, we can not guarantee the same for other guests who may be in the cafe at the same time.

Please note that we have fixed prices, and there is no room for bargaining.
