Meet your hosts Rachid Karkouch and Lori Gordon
Lori K Gordon is an American artist and businesswoman who has lived in Marrakech since 2014. With work in public and private collections worldwide, she first became known for The Labat Project, which has been acquired by the Smithsonian Institution. Her work can also be found in the collections of two U.S. Presidents and numerous university, museum and foundation collections. She is Founder and President of Six Degrees Consortium, a US-based non-profit organization, Founder and President of El Fenn Maroc, a registered Moroccan charity, and co-founder of Marrakech Henna Art Cafe.
Rachid Karkouch is a native Moroccan of Amazigh descent. He grew up in a small village near Marrakech, and as a young man worked as an artisan creating traditional Moroccan metal lamps. He later changed course and began working in the tourism sector, gaining experience with employment in riads and cafes. In 2014 he formed a partnership with Henna Art Cafe co-owner Lori Gordon and the couple soon thereafter opened the cafe. Rachid is fluent in Arabic and Amazigh, and speaks English and French as well.
